This photograph is of the ironmongers ‘Coull and Mathew’ at the corner of Bridge Street and Chalmers Street and was taken in 1963. The firm had moved into these premises (currently occupied by the ‘Seven Kings’ pub that has just re-opened after refurbishment) that were a replacement for the shop that was demolished for the construction of the Louise Carnegie Gates of Pittencrieff Park from where this photo was taken.

My dad used to drag me in here. He would browse tools and all sorts and buy a Bix of screws in cardboard box wrapped in brown paper bag. A proper iron mongers.
