This photograph shows Dunfermline High School pupils marching along Holyrood Place in the 1953 Gala Parade accompanied by their teacher Alex McLennan. An annual fixture in many school children’s memories of growing up in Dunfermline. The Parade used to take place on a Friday and involved a day off school, marching down the High Street into the Glen with games and free lunch boxes thrown in. The tradition continues to today, though now taking place on a Saturday.
