Old image of the corner of East Port where it meets the New Row. The East Port bar is still there today and the building on the corner is now Costa’s cafe.

When did the trams stop running. They have not existed in my lifetime.
One could not stand in the middle of the road now as these men are doing.
I also wonder if that is a gas lamp on the corner, or is it an electric one?
When I was a boy, the present day Costa was a bank. I saw it ever day on my way to the old commercial school which was down Commercial School lane just off East Port.
The trams started in 1909 and the last one ran in 1937. Buses started running in the 1920s and gradually the teams were phased out. The bus garage in St Leonard’s Street was the original transmission depot.
Used to work in the Bank of Scotland which I believe is now Costa. My Uncle owned East Port Bar many years ago. Great memories
Dad, Liam thinks you would remember these days 🙂 Jean Duff

I used to work there in the early 70’s when it was the bank of Scotland
