This photograph from the late 1950’s shows a view down Bruce Street with shops such as the photographer Peter Leslie, McKissock’s, and Wm Stevenson, auctioneers and furniture retailers. The ‘Old Dunfermline’ DVD, ‘Then and Now’, featuring many images and photographs can be bought in ‘Cafe Fresh’ opposite the City Chambers featured in the distance,who are kindly stocking it. Many other old photographs of Dunfermline can also be seen in the Local Studies Department in St Margaret’s House in St Margaret’s Street.

My Dad was the manager of Hays the grocers in Chalmers st his name was Jimmy Dick .This photo brings back many fond memories
This photo seems to have been taken from outside the YMCA. I went to both cubs and scouts in that building and that view of Bruce Street is exactly as I remember it in the 1950s.

I worked in the co- op fruit dept in the High st in 1951 and remember when King George died and it was announced from the town hall , I also worked in William Lows the grocer before going to work in the meadow also had a photo taken at Peter Leslie’s
Seeing all the old photos bring back many memories. Having left Dunfermline 60 years ago this Jun and yet it seems like only a short time ago.

When I was in the cubs, we met in the hall next to Peter Leslies shop. Much of my young life took place in Bruce Street.
I concur with Alastair Gordon, but I was in the cubs and scouts a bit later in the 1960s
It seems that Pickers were in Bruce Street next to what I knew as Felix Hudson Jewelers shop.
I mean pickfords
Peter Leslie used to give his Golden Lab a tin of dog food and it would rip it open with its teeth then eat the contents.
This is not Bruce St, it is Chalmers St down near the Louise Carnegie Gates entrance to the Glen.
I worked down Bruce Street for The Scotsman & Edinburgh Evening News in 1964
