This photograph is of Douglas Street where ‘Subway’ is now. Tommy Black was a well known trader who had a celebration sale in February 1960 in his fishmongers and greengrocers for his Silver Jubilee when he sold goods at 1935 prices-hence the long queues!

    I worked in Tommy Blacks on a Saturday for 10 shillings (1963) in the storeroom above the shop to keep the shelves stocked manager was a Mr. Harvie (ex army sgt major) very strict man.
