This photograph taken around 1971 shows Crosswynd still open to traffic.The gent’s outfitters Nicol’s occupied the prominent site on the right-hand corner where Cross Wynd meets the High Street, and the North of Scotland Bank was opposite (now occupied by the Clydesdale Bank). On the roadway can be seen the cobbles which marked the site of the Mercat Cross, now returned to that site after the completion of pedestrianisation in 1992.
