This photograph taken in 1966 shows the infilling of the area behind the City Hotel with material from Wellwood Colliery pit bing to create the Glen Bridge Car Park, accessed nowadays from Chalmers Street. It shows construction work taking place and a tunnel being laid out to maintain access to St Margarets Cave which is open as a free tourist attraction between 11.00am and 4.00pm each day during the summer. This photograph is from a collection in St Margaret’s House Local Studies Department. Many other images can be seen by visiting St Margaret’s House 9 St Margaret’s KY12 7PE, as well as by going to the following link where you can follow progress on the new Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries
