Photograph of Ironmongers ‘Watt and Dewar’ from 1963 of their premises in East Port before they moved to the New Row (opposite the Alhambra). It was situated where the Bank of Scotland building is now, next to the East Port pub. The shop, run by Jim Craig and his wife, was an Aladdin’s Cave with everything from the proverbial needle to an anchor.

I remember it. It was a great shop.
Ask for anything and they would just go and get it. Used to have me amazed at how they found anything.
Awesome shop…had everything
Even I remember this shop……..and I’m from Kirkcaldy!!!!!!
It had just about everything !
It was a great shop with everything you needed, even cake decorating supplies. So sad when it closed.
Ah… opposite Hosiery Manufacturing, if I remember correctly!
The ironmongers at the Glen gates was Burt and Graham’s which was formed by staff from Coull And Matthews when it closed and it was in the premises now occupied by The Seven Kings.
Got my first chisels as an apprentice glazier, great shop.

I could spend hours in this shop and Mrs Craig ended up being my cookery teacher. Lovely woman. It was like an Aladdin’s cave with something for everyone. I miss it.
I worked there as the saturday boy!!
Remember both shops well. Knew Jim from when he was young helping his family run Couston Farm at Dalgety with his dad and brothers Jock and Bobby.
Dad always got his tools from there.
Was going to tag you in this Ross ‘Teddy’ Craig, then noticed that you’ve already ‘liked’ it!
