This photograph shows Woodmill Road being widened around 1964 as the entrance to Transy Estate on the left would become the main entrance for the new St Margaret’s and Commercial Primary Schools being built there. Ferguson’s Nursery (for flowers not children!) on the right is now a housing estate.

Don’t make them like they did then at least they lasted long than a day
I remember that work as my dad was working as a joiner building the schools.
I used to cycle along it every morning going to my paper round.
I used to go and feed the ponies up there

Every space build houses,eventually there will de no more wee spaces,and people will realise there will always be housing shortages,its evalution!
A long time ago..
The building behind the trees in the far distance on the right was (still is?) the Brucefield Hotel. I lived in Woodmill from when it was built until 1958 when I went into the RAF. We were the third family to move in.
I lived in woodmill Road,when you could walk all the way to linburn road through fields,no houses!
First School i went to was Commercial, loved walking around that part of the area seeing the ponies
WOW a lot has changed / surprised you can’t see old Doctors house or Manse maybe !!
