This photograph shows the area that is now the big Sinclair Gardens roundabout at the top of the Public Park which is a lot busier now than it was when this picture was taken. Known locally as Park Gates, there was parking for people using the tennis courts (now the outdoor skate park below the Carnegie Hall) and the football pitches. The Park Tavern pub and houses on the corner of Appin Crescent were all demolished to make way for the new roundabout and road through the Public Park.

Oh yes, I remember the Park Tavern and John Donald’s shop across from the Public Park before the roundabout was built. Went to Commercial School when it was in East Port
