New Row

This photograph taken in the 1970’s show the area at the bottom of the New Row before the construction of the dual carriageway through the Public Park. This was a busy and dangerous junction at Bothwell Street, New Row and East Nethertown, though that didn’t stop people hanging out their washing on the drying green as can be seen under the viaduct on the far left in the first photograph taken in the 1970’s. The hooks are still fastened on to the stonework today, though the tenants have long moved away.
