Aye its a pity its not there today, its amazing the amount of people that ask about it and also the pets corner they used to have with rabbits and guinea pigs etc they just seemed to be obsessed to just having peacocks now.

They had zoo status for a while. Marmosets and their babies were let loose and they ate all the many cockroaches and any spiders/insects in the building, the roof ,the trees round about had no birds left. The keeper was very informative . Such a shame the “foot and mouth” happened and SUDDENLY all the animals across Fife were got rid of. Cost-cutting exercise I think!

Used to love the glen, would get the bus in to Dunfermline, buy some peanuts from the pet shop and feed the birds, if you stood long enough with your hand out, blue tits, sparrows and robins would take them out of your hand. Would visit the hothouse, aviary and rabbits. Wonderful memories. Moved away in 1985, was gutted when a few years back went to visit and there was nothing there. Bet you’re right about vandals though.

These were the days we didn’t go around vandalising places we respected our surroundings, we were safe to walk the streets and whats the difference from today we were disaplined far far to soft now . Bring back the good old days.

I remember there was a white cockatoo used to put pennies in his cage and he used to pick them up and take them up to his nest. Loved going there and seeing all the animals.

I can remember wandering round with my new girlfriend when this monkey started knocking one out… I was mortified then started laughing like whatever.. she became my wife so it must have been acceptable in those days ..
